After many years of supporting and celebrating New Zealand’s food writing community, Food Writers New Zealand has reached the end of its journey as an incorporated society.
Following a Special General Meeting of members, a resolution was passed to formally wind up the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers, trading as Food Writers New Zealand, effective 31 July 2026.
This decision was not made lightly. It reflects the financial realities facing the organisation and follows careful consideration by the Board and members over many months.
Once all liabilities and winding-up costs have been met, any remaining surplus funds will be shared equally between Everybody Eats and Garden to Table—two charities whose work reflects our shared belief in the power of food to educate, nourish and bring communities together.
While the incorporated society is coming to a close, the relationships, friendships and passion that have defined Food Writers New Zealand over the years remain. Members also expressed support for exploring ways to maintain community connections in an informal, volunteer-led capacity into the future.
There will no longer be any formal membership, we look forward to staying connected with our food-loving community and we encourage you to follow and join the conversation on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to every member, past president, committee member, administrator, corporate partner and supporter who has contributed to Food Writers New Zealand over the years. Your generosity, expertise and enthusiasm have helped foster a vibrant community and championed New Zealand’s food stories.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
Food Writers New Zealand may be closing this chapter, but the stories, friendships and love of food it has inspired will continue to be shared for years to come.
