CONFERENCE

FOOD: ART & FASHION

Food Writers Conference 2007

September 28-29, Wellington

Food: Art & Fashion was the theme that

bound speakers, sponsors and fun together

in a real Food Week in Wellington at the end

of September 2007.

A dynamic 'magazine-style’ conference format provoked thought and ideas to inspire writing and food reporting.  Speakers on the programme at the boutique Museum Hotel opposite Te Papa included Le Cordon Bleu Australia's Greg Fitpatrick and homegrown talent including Sharon Crosbie, Richard Till, Kieran Scott, Geoff Allen, Bronwen King, Mark Hawthorne, Glenda Gourley and Fiona Chard in sessions chaired by Lyn Barnes of NZ Life & Leisure magazine and Anne Scott of Food New Zealand magazine. A panel line up of Adam Newell, Martin Bosley, John Lawrence and David Burton chaired by Lois Daish looked 'Inside Wellington Restaurants'.

Minister for Food Safety, the Hon Annette King and conceptual pop artist Billy Apple highlighted the Guild's 20th anniversary Amazing Graze cocktail party held at the Boatshed on Wellington's waterfront, a short walk away from the Museum Hotel.

The fabulous Culinary Quills Awards lunch at which the 2007 award winners were announced was held, like the Amazing Graze at the Boatshed and both functions were catered by Ruth Pretty. There was also the opportunity to savour the best Wellington regional produce. And, a choice of two gourmet food tours exploring the gastronomic delights of Martinborough or foodie jewels at the northern end of Wellington harbour in Porirua and Petone.

Timed during the sensational World of Wearable Arts week in Wellington and immediately following the New Zealand Food Safety Authority's Food Into the Future conference, it presented EVERY reason to visit our beautiful capital city at the end of September for both business and pleasure.
